Wolverines Fall To Indians

WEST BEND -It was a tough night for the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines on Tuesday as they lost a 62-47 contest to the Indians of Pocahontas Area/ Pomeroy-Palmer in boys basketball action.

Pocahontas Area/ Pomeroy-Palmer took an early 15-6 lead after one quarter of play, but came back in the second quarter to cut the Indians’ lead to five points, trailing 27-22 at the intermission. In the third quarter, the Wolverines saw their shooting touch go cold as the Indians outscored West Bend-Mallard by a 21-6 margin, all but putting the game out of reach with a 48-28 lead to start the last quarter.

For West Bend-Mallard, Matt Ruppert would lead the offensive effort with 13 points, while John Runchey chipped in 12 points and Jake Goodchild added 10 markers. Chris Schmidt scored seven points, while Derek Banwart added four points and Mitch Bonnstetter added a free throw to the effort.

WB-M opens tournament play Monday night at home when they play host to Twin River Valley in class 1A action.
