Emmetsburg’s Lady E’Hawks closed out their Lakes Conference campaign with a 63-35 loss to Spencer in action Tuesday night. The loss drops the Lady E’Hawks to 4-15 overall and 4-12 in league play.

Tuesday’s game saw the Lady E’Hawks and the Tigers start out equally, with neither team finding the hoop until 2:00 had elapsed in the quarter. Spencer would score first, but Emmetsburg would answer and try to match the Tigers until the closing stages of the quarter, when Spencer reeled off a pair of unanswered buckets to take a 16-10 lead to start the second quarter.

The Tigers found their offense in the second quarter, quickly pulling away from the Lady E’Hawks as Emmetsburg struggled to get offensive penetration into the paint against the Tiger defense. The Lady E’Hawks would battle hard and continued to fight to a 31-17 margin at the intermission.

Spencer was able to hold their momentum during the second half, working out to a 53-26 lead over Emmetsburg in the third quarter, as the Lady E’Hawks continued to struggle with their offense in the third quarter.

With the lead safely in hand, the Tigers added 10 points to their tally in the final stanza. Emmetsburg Coach John Kennedy brought his bench players into the game in the final minutes to give everyone an opportunity to play in the final home game of the season before the final horn sounded for the 63-35 final score.

Senior Bailee Moore would lead Emmetsburg’s effort with 10 points, while Paige Naig added nine points. Senior Jackie Barnes added six points, while senior Bridget Rouse added four points. Senior Mollie Smith chipped in three points, as did teammate Tiffany Wollum to round out the scoring for the Lady E’Hawks.

Emmetsburg will enter post season play this Saturday night, Feb. 14, when they travel to Milford to take on the Okoboji Pioneers in a 7 p.m. contest.
