Knights Stumble At Regional Dual
POCAHONTAS – The hopes of a berth at the State Dual Team Tournament were dashed Tuesday night for the Graettinger/Terril Knights. The Knights were edged 34-30 by Manson-Northwest Webster in the 1A Regional Dual to end their team season.
“We did not wrestle six minutes in a few matches and those few minutes cost us a very important dual,”?noted GT?Head Coach Cody Alesch. “We had some guys wrestle as good as I’ve seen them wrestle all year. In a competitive dual like this one, it takes a team effort and we did not have that.”
With action starting at 140 pounds, the Knights’ Logan Tonderum won a 9-0 major decision over Brad Cabrerra, but at 145, Heath Marchand was pinned in 2:38 by Tom Lauter. Michael Jensen won a 22-11 major decision over Ronnie Albee in action at 152 pounds and at 160, Kass Schany earned an 11-2 major decision over Dre McCubbin.
Nathan Howard, wrestling at 171 pounds, would lose a 6-9 decision to Austin Resch in their match, and at 189 pounds, Josh Anderson lost a 7-0 decision to Nick Meyer.
Jake Hoffman picked up a 6-2 decision victory in action at 215 pounds over Landon Resch and at heavyweight, Kyle Brown earned a 3:13 win by fall over the cougars’ Nathan Waller.
The Knights surrendered a forfeit in the 103 pound match to Joey Dupont, but at 112 pounds, James Tatman earned a 14-10 decision victory over Jesse Partlow.
Trent Lundgren collected a 1:28 win by fall over Dylan Dorge in the 119 pound match, but at 125, Tyler Manning was pinned in 5:54 of his match with Caleb Smothers.
At 130 pounds, Ryan Schany would lose in an 11-3 major decision to Jordan Howell, to make the sore 30-28, but with the Knights being forced to forfeit the 135 pound match to Manson-Northwest Webster’s Skyler Rice, the Cougars would earn the four point victory that ended the Knights hopes for continued action in the post season.
Graettinger/Terril will still send seven wrestlers, James Tatman, Logan Tonderum, Michael Jensen, Kass Schany, Nathan Howard, Jake Hoffman and Kyle Brown to the Class 1A District meet this Saturday at Sioux Center.
Action will start at 12 noon.
