Lady E’Hawks Earn Split Decisions
After a dismal showing in a makeup game on Thursday, Emmetsburg’s Lady E’Hawks played one of their best outings of the season Friday night to earn a split decision in games with Spirit Lake and LeMars.
Thursday’s game saw the vaunted Spirit Lake defense completely take the Lady E’Hawks out of their offense in a 60-16 setback. The Lady E’Hawks trailed 18-4 after the first quarter and 35-7 at the intermission. The Indians stretched the lead to a 49-16 margin at the end of the third quarter and held Emmetsburg scoreless in the final quarter for the 60-16 final score.
Bailee Moore would tally 10 points, while Paige Naig added four points and Jackie Barnes added two points.
It was a completely different story on Friday night, as the Lady E’Hawks would post a 53-44 win over LeMars.
Emmetsburg would trail 11-8 at the end of the first quarter, despite a change in the starting lineup that say Bridget Rouse get the start and add a three-point field goal to give the Lady E’Hawk their first points of the night.
In the second quarter, Emmetsburg played solid defense and on the other end of the floor, took good shots and made the offense work to post a 25-23 lead at the break.
The defense would come to play in the third quarter, as LeMars was limited to three points by the Lady E’Hawks, who stretched their lead to a 38-26 margin.
In the final quarter, Emmetsburg maintained their lead and kept the defensive pressure applied in taking the 53-44 win.
Tiffany Wollum came off the bench for Emmetsburg to rip the nets for 19 points, including three treys on the night. Bailee Moore added 10 points, while Mollie Smith added nine points and Paige Naig came up with eight points. Bridget Rouse had three points with her trey in the opening minutes of the game, and Nicole Leuer and Jackie Barnes both added two points.
Emmetsburg will host Spencer tonight for Parents Night and close the regular season at Pocahontas on Thursday night.
