E’Hawks Stumble In League Games
Back-to-Back games resulted in a pair of losses for the Emmetsburg E’Hawks to end last week.On Thursday, the E’Hawks came up short in a 55-44 loss to Spirit Lake and on Friday, LeMars claimed a 55-47 win over the E’Hawks, who fall to 6-12 overall on the season and 3-11 in the Lakes.
Thursday’s game with the Indians was a makeup of a postponed event back in January, but the delay seemed to favor the E’Hawks, who came out to lead 10-8 after one quarter of paly and 17-13 at the intermission. However, Spirit Lake would come out firing in the second half and caught the E’Hawks, posting a 39-31 lead at the end of the third frame. Emmetsburg would cut Spirit Lake’s lead to four points with just over 3:00 to go in the final quarter, but the Indians simply put the game out of reach for the win.
Emmetsburg was lead by the 17 points of Trevor Dettmann and the 13 points of Nick Wuebker. Tyler Kliegl added six points, with Langston Jones chipping in five points. Tommy Kuecker added two points and Nate Brown made a free throw for one point.
LeMars came to town on Friday night and escaped with a 55-47 win over the E’Hawks.
The two clubs played even basketball in the first quarter, with Emmetsburg trailing 12-11 at the end of the first quarter, but poor shooting would haunt the E’Hawks in the second quarter, as LeMars took a 35-20 lead at the intermission.
In the third quarter, Emmetsburg outscored LeMars 15-9 to trail 46-35 starting the final quarter. But once again, cold shooting would stymie the E’Hawks as the Bulldogs went on to earn the 55-47 win.
Trevor Dettmann would lead the scoring with 15 points, while nick Wuebker added 12 points. Tommy Kuecker came away with eight points, while Tyler Kliegl added five points and Langston Jones made four. Nate Brown added three points to round out the effort.
Emmetsburg stepped out of the conference on Monday night for a meeting with North Sentral Kossuth and resumes conference play tonight by hosting Spencer in Parents Night contests.
