Raider Girls, Lady Knights Battle Tuesday Night

RUTHVEN – Whenever neighboring schools meet up, you’re guaranteed a good competition. Such was the case Tuesday night when the Ruthven-Ayrshire Raiders hosted the Knights of Graettinger/Terril. The visitors would take the victory, In a 46-32 win that was closer than the score indicated.

The game started out well for Ruthven-Ayrshire, as they took an early 8-3 lead over the visiting Knights, who had to battle back to take a one-point, 10-9 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

The Raiders battled the Knights evenly in the second quarter, working hard to get good shots and playing good defense while matching the Knights bucket for bucket.

But after the good start in the first quarter, Ruthven-Ayrshire came back to outscore Graettinger/Terril 11-10 in the second quarter to tie the game up at the halftime break, 20-20.

As play resumed in the second half, the Knights began to edge away from the Raiders, as Ruthven-Ayrshire struggled with their shots and getting the offense to flow in the quarter. Graettinger/Terril would outscore the Raiders 12-7 in the third quarter to take a 32-27 lead to start the final quarter.

Ruthven-Ayrshire refused to concede anything in the final quarter and kept battling away, playing good defense but finding the offense hard to execute against the Knights. Graettinger/Terril would go on to score 14 points in the final quarter while the Raiders were only able to add five points to their tally for the 46-32 final score.

For Ruthven-Ayrshire, Cassidy Smith would lead the offensive attack on the night with 15 points, while Sadie Forey added 10 points. Shyanne Zaragoza would chip in four points while Alesha Sikora came away with three points to round out Ruthven-Ayrshire’s scoring.

Graettinger/Terril would be led by the 19 points of Malorie Girres, while Tasha Nielson added 15 points. Theresa Peterson added eight points and Amanda Oleson came away with four points.

The Raiders are in action both Thursday and Friday night at home while Graettinger/Terril will host Twin River Valley on Friday.
