Knights Second At LM?Invite

GRAETTINGER – The second-ranked Knights of Graettinger/Terril claimed three championships at Saturday’s Laurens-Marathon Invitational Tournament.

Along with three titles and four runner-up finishes, Coach Cody Alesch’s Knights also celebrated the 100th career victory for James Tatman at 119 pounds. However, Tatman would also lose his first match of the season to place second.

Winning championships for the Knights were Michael Jensen at 145 pounds, Jake Hoffman at 189 pounds and heavyweight Kyle Brown.

For Michael Jensen, the day started with a 2:42 win by fall over Alta’s Cody Duhn and a semi-final 1:11 win by fall over Clay Block of East Sac County. In the finals, Jensen claimed a 16-0 Technical Fall over Andrew Miller of Twin River Valley/West Bend-Mallard.

Undefeated 189 pounder Jake Hoffman pinned Hunter Amundson of Sioux Central in 1:52 to start the day, then pinned Blake Naeve of TRV/WBM in 1:10 to earn his title match. Against Tom Brinkman of Pocahontas Area, Hoffman won the title with a 17-6 major decision.

For heavyweight Kyle Brown, the tournament featured three wins by fall. Brown started out with w a 1:26 pin over East Sac County’s Mariam Free. In the semi-finals, Phil Roethler of TRV/WBM was pinned in 1:08 and for the finals, Brown pinned Matt Hetlin of Sioux Central in :43 to round out the Knights’ Championships.

Graettinger/Terril picked up a quartet of second place finishes, starting with Trent Lundgren at 112 pounds. Lundgren won a 16-3 major decision over Josh Sager of Alta, but was the victim of a 3-2 decision to Brance Simms of TRV/WBM in the finals for his second place finish.

After opening his day with :56 win by fall over Tyler Maggard of TRV/WBM at 119, James Tatman then pinned Tret Kisoder of Laurens-Marathon in :20. But in the finals, Tatman would suffer his first loss of the season in the finals, when he was pinned by Josh Christensen of Alta in 4:39 of the match to settle for second place.

At 135 pounds, Logan Tonderum earned a 3:45 win by fall over Peyton Vote of TRV/WBM, but lost in the finals by a 10-5 decision to Rubben Wennell of Laurens-Marathon.

Nathan Howard, wrestling at 171 pounds, started out with a 2:21 win by fall and a 15-0 Technical Fall, but ended up finishing second to Nate Tool of TRV/WBM in the finals after being pinned in 1:27 of the match.

Graettinger/Terril would get a third place finish from Josh Anderson at 215 pounds, while Tymthy Hart, wrestling at 125 pounds and Heath Marchand at 140 pounds, both ended up finishing fourth. Ryan Schany would cap off the Knights’ efforts with a sixth place finish at 130 pounds.

“We lost a few matches we should have won Saturday by making a few mistakes we normally do not make,” said Graettinger/Terril coach Cody Alesch. “We will gear up this week and be ready to put it all out this Saturday at the Sectional Tourney.”
