E’Hawk Junior Varsity Downs Midgets
Emmetsburg’s E’Hawk Junior Varsity squad collected a 50-33 win over Estherville Lincoln Central in action on Jan. 23.
The young E’Hawks led 14-3 after one quarter and 29-9 at the intermission. Emmetsburg went on to post a 41-19 lead after three quarters before taking the 50-33 final margin of victory.
For the E’Hawks, Cory Schultes scored nine points while Kyle Hurley added eight points. Bobb Gappa and Arthur Heldt both tallied seven points, while Marcus Akridge came up with five points. Steven Heddinger and Jacob Carlson both scored four points, while Austin Oppenheimer, Ben Pelzer and Tyler Clasing all added two points each to the coffers.
Coach Phil Geelan’s E’Hawks made 20 of 44 shots from inside the arc, 45 percent shooting, and three of six three-pointers for an even 50 percent split, while making just one of four free throws for 25 percent accuracy.
The E’Hawks also collected 28 rebounds as opposed to ELC’s 18 boards. .
Emmetsburg committed just 11 turnovers in the contest, while Estherville Lincoln Central committed 17 miscues.
With the win, Emmetsburg’s Junior Varsity improved to 7-5.
