Earn Tie For Second In Lakes

The regular dual season ended Thursday night for the Emmetsburg/AR/RA?E’Hawks with a split against Storm Lake and Spirit Lake Park. Against the Tornadoes of Storm Lake, Emmetsburg came up on the wrong side of a 43-32 tally, but the E’Hawks would rally to defeat Spirit Lake Park by a 42-31 score.

The split gives the E’Hawks a Lakes Conference mark of 6-2, and gives them a share of second place in the Lakes with Storm Lake, while Spencer took the conference title with a perfect 8-0 mark.

The Lakes Conference tournament is slated for this Friday evening at 5 p.m. at the Spencer?High School Fieldhouse.

Against the Tornadoes, Emmetsburgv opened with Justin Studer earning a 10-2 major decision win over Garbriel Torres at 112 pounds. At 119, Justin Firkins was pinned in :34 by Brian Gomez and at 125, Matt Weir was pinned in1:02 by Chris Rios.

At 130 pounds, Jake Stubbs took on Michael Mohr, but a persistent bloody nose would force Stubbs to have to default the match to Mohr due to the injury.

With the E’Hawks trailing 18-4, Jordan Cody earned a 4:45 win by fall over Jose Diaz in the 135 pound match, but the E’Hawks forfeited the 140 pound match to James Wessel.

At 145, Joey Brandenburg was pinned in 3:26 by Patrick Higgins before Ben McCain lost a 9-0 major decision to Ben Seaman at 160.

Howard henkelvig was pinned in 1:49 of the 171 pound match as Storm Lake edged out to a 40-14 margin over the E’Hawks.

Emmetsburg came back, however, as Jake Morris claimed a :43 win by fall over Michael Eads at 189 and Adam Leuer took a 1:10 win by fall over Doug Dimig at 215 pounds.

Taylor Morris would lose a 6-1 decision to Jorge Hernandez in the heavyweight match, and at 103, Isaac Lundgren received a win by Forfeit for the 43-32 final tally.

Against Spirit Lake Park, the E’Hawks opened iwth Matt Weir being pinned in :49 of the 125 pound match by Casey Jones. At 130, Jake Stubbs scored a 12-6 decision win over Collen Andera but at 135, Jordan Cody would lose a 4-2 decision to Derrick Miner.

Joey Brandenburg earned a :37 win by fall over Scott Hummel in the 140 pound match, but the E’Hawks forfeited the 145 pound match to Brandon Griffin.

At 152, Joey Naig pinned Harrison HArgett in 1:35, but at 160, Ben McCain lost a 12-3 major decision to Brent Goldtrapp.

LEading 19-15, the Indians picked up a 1:59 win by fall in the 171 pound match, as the E’Hawks’ Howard Henkelvig was pinned by Rick Wilson.

In the 189 pound match, Jake Morris took a 1:14 win by fall over Max Stammer and at 215, Adam Leuer earned a 4-2 decision win over Matt Mayou.

Now trailing by one point, the E’Hawks got a big pin from heavyweight Taylor Morris, as he pinned Adam Dreezen in 1:14 to put the E’Hawks back on top, 30-25.

Isaac Lundgren earned a :12 win by fall over Sam Bosma in the 103 poun match and at 112, Justin Studer needed jsut :11 to pin Drew Brevik before Jusin Firkins closed out dual by being pinned in 1:44 of his match with Dylan Bryce for the 42-31 final score.

After their appearance in the Robert E. Siddens Duals in Waterloo over the weekend, the E’Hawk wrestlers will finish off the dual campaign tonight (Tuesday) with a double dual at Pocahontas, where they will meet the Indians of Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer and the Thunder of Twin River Valley-West Bend-Mallard. Action will begin at 6 p.m.
