Emmetsburg’s Lady E’Hawks came up with a solid offensive and defensive effort in a 47-32 win over Cherokee in Lakes Conference girls basketball action Friday night. The win gives Emmetsburg a 3-10 mark overall and 2-7 in league play.

Emmetsburg would struggle through a couple of minutes of out-of-synch play in the opening quarter until they got their footing. Once their offense began settling in and the defense made a couple of stops, the Lady E’Hawks were able to post an 11-8 lead at the end of the opening quarter. Emmetsburg would edge away from the Braves in the second frame, taking a 21-16 lead into the lockerroom at the half time break.

The Lady E’Hawks came out of the intermission on a mission – to come away with a victory in front of the home town crowd. The defense hustled hard in the second half of the game, and took a 32-26 lead to start the final quarter before the Lady E’Hawks took the 47-32 win.

Jackie Barnes led the scoring with 10 points, while Paige Naig and Nicole Leuer both added nine points. Tiff Wollum tallied eight points, while Bailee Moore came up with six points. Mollie Smith had three points in the win and Katelyn Schany rounded out the scoring with two points..
