Shooting woes and fouls combined to trip up the Emmetsburg E’Hawks in a 62-48 setback at the hands of Cherokee on Friday night. The loss leaves the E’Hawks still searching for their first Lakes Conference win of the year with a 2-8 overall mark on the season.

The E’Hawks had a tough time getting the offense on track in the first quarter, as Cherokee took a 14-9 lead after one quarter and held on to a 28-20 lead at the intermission, but also had three starters with three fouls as well.

But in the third quarter, the E’Hawks came out blazing and made a run at the Braves, taking the lead with 2:05 to go in the third at 36-35, but then went cold to end the quarter down by three at 39-36. The fourth quarter would be the E’Hawks’ undoing, as fouls would take Tommy Kuecker, Trevor Dettmann and Nick Weubker early, while the Braves went on a 10-0 run to put the game out of reach for the 62-48 final.

Langston Jones would tally 15 points for the E’Hawks, with Nick Wuebker adding 10. Trevor Dettmann, Tyler Kliegl and Tommy Kuecker all added seven points to the mix and Nate Brown chipped in two points.
