E’Hawk Grapplers Win Pair At Mason City Duals

MASON?CITY?- It was a 2-2 split for the Emmetsburg/AR/RA E’Hawks in the Mason City Duals on Saturday. The E’Hawks earned victories over the Humboldt Wildcats and Central Springs, but lost duals to Mason City and Lake Mills/Northwood-Kensett during the day.

The EHawks wrestled the host Mohawks of Mason City to start the day, and lost a 43-29 decision.

At 135, Jordan Cody earned a 1:35 win by fall over Tyler Strait and at 140, Joey Brandeburg scored a 22-4 Technical Fall in 5:18 over Jared Clark. The E’Hawks forfeited the 145 pound match to Max Krieger, but at 152, Joey Naig earned a 9-3 decision over Travis Mallo.

At 160, Ben McCain was pined in 3:15 by Jared Bartel, and at 171, Howard Henkelvig was pinned in 2:32 of his match with Tevin Benson. Jake Morris pinned Kenny Wright in 1:38 of the 189 pound match and in the 215 pound match, Adam Leuer won a 7-3 decision over Matt Schiffer to give the E’Hawks a 23-18 lead.

Taylor Morris was the victim of a :47 pin by Clint Krieger in the heavyweight match, but at 103, Isaac Lundgren tallied a 1:28 win by fall over Blake Spotts. Justin Studer lost an 8-2 decision to Cody King in the 112 pound match to make the score 29-27.

Nick Larsen was pinned in 1:04 of the 119 pound match by Nathan Flynn and Matt Weir was pinned in :46 by Parker Sturges in the 125 pound match and at 130 pounds, Jake Stubbs was the victim of a 21-9 major decision for the 43-29 final score.

The E’Hawks then met up with Lake Mills/Northwood-Kensett, a team coached by former E’Hawk wrestler Alex Brandenburg.

Action started at 140, where Joey Brandenburg earned a 3:02 win by fall over Royce Byrnes, but at 145, the E’Hawks forfeited to Isaac Buffington.

Joey Naig claimed a :58 win by fall over Cameron Peterson at 152, but at 160, Ben McCain was pinned by Alex Long in 1:51. Howard Henkelvig was pinned in 1:04 by Nathan Moretz at 171, but at 198, Jake Morris earned a 9-5 decision victory over Jake Brtekken.

Wrestling at 215, Taylor Morris rallied to win by fall in the last second of his match, scoring the 6:00 win by fall over Merrick Harig.

Adam Leuer, wrestling at heavyweight, pinned Jordan Banwart in 5:09 to give the E’Hawks a 27-18 advantage.

At 103, Isaac Lundgren received a win by forfeit, but at 112, Justin Studer was pinned in 1:55 by David Galvan. Justin Firkins was pinned in 1:35 of the 112 pound match with Junior Gallardo. At 125, Matt Weir was pinned in :49 of his match with Blake Huntington to give LM/NK a 36-33 advantage before Jake Stubbs lost a 21-7 major decision to Wade Hebrink for a 40-33 score.

Jordan Cody would finish off the meet with a 3:42 win by fall over Spencer Capitani, but it was one point short in the 40-39 final tally.

With two setbacks on the day, the E’Hawks were due for a change of fortunes. In the third dual against Humboldt, the Wildcats forfeited six matches as the E’Hawks rolled to a 57-24 victory over their old nemesis.

At 145, the E’Hawks forfeited to Nick Reis, but at 152, Joey Naig received a win by forfeit to even the score at 6-6. Ben McCain was pined in 2:19 of the 160 pound match, but Howard Henkelvig received a win by forfeit at 171 to tie the score at 12-12.

Jake Morris pinned Joel Hanson in 2:07 of the 189 pound match and at 215, Taylor Morris took a forfeit win. Adam Leuer earned a 2:52 win by fall over Cody Boge in the heavyweight match and at 103, Isaac Lundgren claimed a 2:31 win by fall over Alex Zinnel to put the E’Hawks up 36-12.

Justin Studer received a win by forfeit at 112, but the E’Hawks forfeited at 119. Matt Weir was pinned in :28 of his match with Justin Carlson at 125, but Jake Stubbs earned a nail-biting, 13-12 decision victory over Nick Olthoff for a 45-24 score after the 130 pound match and E’Hawks Jordan Cody at 135 and Joey Brandenburg at 140 both received wins by forfeit for the 57-24 final margin of victory.

For the final dual of the afternoon, the E’Hawks met up with Central Springs and earned a 40-34 victory.

Joey Naig started the action with a 4:40 win by fall over Mitchell Millers at 152, while Ben McCain was pinned in 1:42 of the 160 pound match by Dylan Miller. Howard Henkelvig lost a 12-8 major decision to Parker Comentino at 171 and at 189, Jake Morris came up short in a 7-2 decision to Andrew Nodtvedt.

At 215 pounds, Adam Leuer won a 22-7 Technical Fall in 4:37 of his match with dylan Coyle to make the score 11-13 in favor of Central Springs.

Taylor Morris received a forfeit win at heavyweight and at 103, Isaac Lundgren claimed a 24-8 Technical Fall in 5:37 over Michael Faught to put the E’Hawks up by a 22-13 margin.

Justin Studer scored a 3:35 win by fall over Sean Pua in the 112 pound match, but at 119, Justin Firkins was pinned in just :17 by Jesse Lambert to make the score 28-19.

At 125, Matt Weir was pinned in :26 by Jordan Lenz and Jake Stubbs lost a 10-4 decision to Colby Moorhead to tie the score at 28-28 after the 130 pound match.

Jordan Cody would come up with a 1:29 win by fall over Spencer Boyd in the 135 pound match and Joey Brandenburg added a 5:19 win by fall over Jace Kamish in action at 140 before the E’Hawks forfeited to Eric Horstman at 145 for the 40-34 final tall and end their day.
