E’Hawk Wrestlers Falter In Double Dual

GRAETTINGER – The season resumed Tuesday night for the E’Hawks of Emmetsburg/AR/RA with a make-up double dual with Sibley-Ocheyedan and Graettinger/Terril. The E’Hawks found some things they need to work on in the wrestling room, as they were defeated by Sibley-Ocheyedan 40-22, and fell to Graettinger/Terril by a 43-34 margin.

Against the Generals of Sibley-Ocheyedan, the E’Hawks picked up five match wins. Justin Studer received a forfeit win at 112, but Nick Larsen was pinned by roberto Ayala in 3:34 of the 119 pound match. At 125, Matt Weir was pinned in :47 by Tucker Boone. Nate Schany battled hard in a 14-4 major decision loss to Steven Brockshus at 130, but at 135 pounds, Jordan cody tallied a 12-2 major decision win over Houston Hieronimous.

Joey Brandenburg earned a 5-2 decision victory over Julio Ayala in action at 140 pounds, but the E’Hawks forfeited the 145 pound match to Justin Truckenmiller, giving the Generals a 22-13 lead.

Joey Naig picked up a 7-2 decision victory in his 152 pound match with Ted Kruger and Ben McCain battled hard in a 4-2 decision loss to Joey Klaassen at 160.

Howard Henkelvig was the victim of a 1:35 fall to Dylan Vande Garde in the 171 pound match and in the 189 pound match, it was a battle to the end as Jake Morris had Brian Block pinned at one point, only to have Block tap out and be able to recover to escape with an 11-10 decision and heartbreaking loss for the E’Hawk grappler.

Adam Leuer would lose a 3-2 decision to Jay Kruger in the 215 pound match and Taylor Morris would come up a point short in a 2-1 decision setback at the hands of heavyweight Kyle Trierweiler. The E’Hawks would get a forfeit at 103 pounds to give Isaac Lundgren the victory to make the final score 40-22.

In the nightcap dual, the E’Hawks squared off with the host Knights of Graettinger/Terril.

Starting at 119 pounds, Trent Lundgren earned a 4:45 win by fall over Justin Studer and at 125, Nick Larsen was pinned in 3:44 of his match with Ryan Schany.

Jake Stubbs earned a 3:02 win by fall over the Knights’ Tyler Manning in the 130 pound match to put the E’Hawks on the scoreboard, but at 135, Nate Schany lost a 12-0 major decision to Logan Tonderum.

Jordan Cody got the E’Hawks back on track with a 3:29 win by fall over Heath Marchand in the 140 pound match before Joey Brandenburg was pinned by Michael Jensen in :20 of the 145 pound match.

Trailing 22-12, the E’Hawks got a much-needed win from Joey Naig in the 152 pound match, as he pinned Drew Skattebo in 1:18 of their match to make the score 22-18. Ben McCain then fell victim to Kass Schany in a 1:14 fall at 160 pounds.

At 171, Howard Henkelvig was pinned by Nate Howard in :44 before Jake Morris and Jake Hoffman squared off in the 189 pound match. Hoffman scored a takedown and held the 2-0 lead through the first two periods before scoring eight points in the final period to take a 10-3 decision over the E’Hawk wrestler.

Adam Leuer dominated the 215 pound match with Josh Anderson taking a 22-9 major decision to make the score 22-37 before Taylor Morris received a forfeit win at heavyweight for a 28-37 tally.

At 103 pounds, Isaac Lundgren needed just :41 to pin Tyler Dalen for a 34-37 margin, but they would forfeit the 112 pound match to James Tatman to give the Knights the 43-34 win.

The E’Hawks will travel to Spencer tonight (Thursday) for a double dual with the Tigers and Western Christian.
