RA Boys Split Weekend Games
RUTHVEN – Coach Randy Hough’s Ruthven-Ayrshire Raiders came away with a split in games played over the past weekend. On Friday, the Raiders fell to Clay Central-Everly by a 72-65 margin, but the Raiders rallied on Saturday night to defeat Aurelia by a 54-51 tally.
Friday saw the Raiders get off to a quick start, but then a failure to rebound the basketball would come back to haunt Ruthven-Ayrshire.
Ryan Sikora would lead the Raider offense with 16 points, while Al Japenga would add 14 points to the effort. Brad Geelan and Carl Jensen both tallied 10 points in the effort, while Cody Zielstra scored eight points and Kyle Simington chipped in seven points. Ryan Sikora would lead the team with six rebounds.
The next evening, Ruthven-Ayrshire would play host to Aurelia and battle to a 54-51 win.
Rebounding was again a concern for Coach Hough, but balanced scoring by the Raiders kept the game in check.
Ryan Sikora scored 16 points again to lead Ruthven-Ayrshire, while Al Japenga came up with 15 points. Carl Jensen scored 11 points, while Brad Geelan added five points. Kyle Simington scored four points, with Cody Zielstra adding two points and Colton Bakken adding a free throw for one point.
“Just like Friday night, we got off to a fast start once again, but then we played on tired legs during the rest of the gameuntil the final couple of minutes,” noted Hough “We had balanced scoring and I was very pleased with our defensive effort. But, we need a lot of work on our rebounding.”
