Knight Girls Fall To ELC
GRAETTINGER – A non-conference matchup between the Midgettes of Estherville Lincoln Central and the Knights of Graettinger/Terril saw the Knights suffer a 47-28 loss on Saturday night.
Playing against the Midgettes on their home floor, Graettinger/Terril gave a good effort on the big floor, but trailed ELC by a 14-8 score at the end of the first quarter. The Knights found a groove in the second quarter, outscoring Estherville Lincoln Central by an 8-4 margin to trail by a bucket, 18-16, at the half time break.
The two teams would trade buckets evenly in the second half, but Estherville Lincoln Central was able to edge out to a 10-point, 34-24 advantage when the third quarter ended. Graettinger/Terril lost its shooting touch in the final quarter, as ELC went on to outscore the Knights by a 14-4 margin in the final period to take the 47-28 final margin of victory.
Graettinger/Terril was led by Theresa Peterson’s five point effort. Leah Flaharty, Dakota Hovinga, Tasha Neilson, Amanda Oleson and Malorie Girres all scored four points for Graettinger/Terril and Lindsay Flaharty added three points to the effort.
“I felt our defense gave a strong effort the entire game,” noted G/T Head Coach Roger Conway. “Our offense had trouble scoring as the ELC defense disrupted out timing and took away our passing angles. You just don’t like to lose, but our intensity was good in this game, nontheless.”
