Moore Qualifies For State Cross County Championships
HOLSTEIN -For the second year in a row, Emmetsburg’s Cross Country teams will be represented at the State Cross Country Championships by a freshman sensation.
Emmetsburg’s Rachael Moore battled a runner from Galva-Holstein down to the finish line to earn the tenth place finish at Monday’s Class 1A Regional Cross Country Meet in Holstein, and earn the final state meet qualification berth with the thrilling finish.
“What a great finish,” noted Emmetsburg Head Coach Dan Dooley. “Rachael battled that girl right down to the last step to get the finish. We’re all very proud of her and all of the kids for the way they competed.”
The Regional meet, which was postponed from last Thursday, featured 121 girls and 130 boys in competition at the Holstein Country Club.
Emmetsburg’s Lady E’Hawk earned an eighth place team finish in the Regional, while the E’Hawks ran incomplete.
With the top 10 finishers earning the right to advance to the state meet, Moore had to fight to the end to secure her finish, as she sprinted the last 40 yards in a dead heat with a runner from Galva-Hostein before crossing the finish line by the distance of an instep for tenth place, clocking in at 16:43.68.
Blake Schany would earn 39th place with a time of 18:18.87 on Tuesday, while Tacee Leebens would finish in 44th place with a time of 18:34.38.
Tayler Bruns earned a 74th place finish in her first Regional meet, turning in a time of 19:36.03 and Kilay Dunnick, also competing in her first Regional meet, finished 98th in a time of 20:50.34.
For the E’Hawks, the boys would complete as four individuals, with Allen Dunnick leading the way on Tuesday. Dunnick would earn the 56th place finish for Emmetsburg with his time of 19:50.18. That was an improvement over his 2007 District meet time of 20:15.
Jared Janssen recorded a time of 20:20.66 at the Regional, good for 69th place, a marked improvement from his 2007 District Meet time of 25:02.
Josh Lieb would turn in a time of 20:38.40 to finish in 72nd place overall and Chad Loomis would finish in 87th place with a time of 21:09.21.
The State Cross Country Meet will be run this Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge. Competition for the Class 1A Girls begins at 2 p.m., with overall competition starting at 11 a.m.
