LAURENS – It was a tough night on the court for the Knights of Graettinger/Terril on Monday. The Knights dropped a 3-0 match to Laurens-Marathon by game scores of 18-25, 12-25 and 23-25.

“The Knights wanted this match,” admitted Graettinger/Terril Head Coach Teresa Alesch. “We fought very hard, but unfortunately couldn’t find open spots in Laurens’ “D” . They were tough to break.”

Offensively, Theresa Petersen led the Knights at the net with nine kills, while Tasha Neilson added five kills and Malorie Girres hammered down three kills.

Leah Flaharty would block three shots, while Theresa Petersen, Tasha Neilson, Dakota Hovinga and Malorie Girres all blocked two shots.

Lindsay Flaharty would dish out 14 assists to her teammates in the match.

Defensively, Dakota Hovinga would make 18 digs in the match, while Leah Flaharty added 13 digs and Tasha Neilson dug out 12 shots for the Knights.

At the serving line, Graettinger/Terril was led by Theresa Petersen who completed 11 serves with two aces, while Tasha Neilson added 11 serves with one ace. Dakota Hovinga added 10 serves with one ace.

In service receptions, Theresa Petersen would field 28 serves, while Dakota Hovinga handled 13 serves and Tasha Neilson handled 10 serves in the match.

“Our biggest problem was pocketing our hitters and supporting our blockers – too many balls were dropped and we just watched them fall,” Alesch said. “We also had a breakdown in serving and hitting; to put it simply, we were giving points over by serving or hitting out of bounds.”

However, Alesch also saw good play from the Knights. “On the positive side, the girls played like a team and came up with some excellent digs.”
