Lady E’Hawks Fall At Storm Lake

STORM LAKE – Despite a second game rally, Emmetsburg’s Lady E’Hawks lost a 3-1 decision to Storm Lake in Lakes Conference volleyball action last Tuesday night. The win drops Emmetsburg to 1-5 in the league and 2-21 overall as they head to Hull tonight (Tuesday) for a meeting with Western Christian.

In Tuesday’s match, Emmetsburg lost the first game by a 17-25 score, but rallied to win game two by a 25-18 tally. Storm Lake would answer in the third game to take a 10-25 win over Emmetsburg and then claimed the match with a 25-23 win over the Lady E’Hawks.

Emmetsburg connected on 72 of 76 serving opportunities with nine aces in the match. Mollie Smith made 13 of 15 serves, while Kayla Herbers added 14 of 14 serves with four ace. Bailee Moore completed 13 of 13 serves, while Hannah Reichert made 12 of 12 serves with three aces and Nichole Hasbrouck also came up with 12 of 12 serves and two aces. Katie Malm added in eight of 10 serves in the contest for Emmetsburg.

At the net, Kayla Herbers had a strong night, making 28 of 34 hits with nine kills, while Mollie Smith added 16 of 18 hits with five kills. Morgan Vlasman had 13 of 18 hits with two kills and Jackie Barnes added 11 of 13 hits to the effort.

Katelyn Schany connected on five on nine hits with two kills and Bailee Moore added five of six hits, with Katie Malm adding a hit.

As a team, Emmetsburg made 79 of 99 hits with 18 kills in the match.

Jackie Barnes and Katelyn Schany both assisted on two blocks, while Bailee Moore and Morgan Vlasman both assisted on a block.

Katie Malm would play a solid defensive game, making 13 digs during the match. Nichole Hasbrouck dug out eight shots, while Bailee Moore added seven digs and Mollie Smith came up with six digs, while Kayla Herbers had five digs.

Bailee Moore would hand out nine assists in the match, while Hannah Reichert made three. Jackie Barnes had two assists and Kayla Herbers and Katelyn Schany each dished out one helper.

After traveling to Hull to play Western Christian on Tuesday, the Lady E’Hawks return home on Thursday night for Senior Night on Oct. 16.
