Raider Netters Struggling In Recent Matches
RUTHVEN – Struggles bringing all the aspects of their game together made for a tough go for Ruthven-Ayrshire’s Raiders. The Raiders dropped two matches this week in Cornbelt Conference volleyball action. Tuesday night RA fell 3-0 to Armstrong-Ringsted and were shut out 3-0 by Laurens-Marathon on Monday night. In Tuesday’s match at Armstrong, RA fell by scores of 16-25, 14-25 and 14-25.
Alyssa Groshens led the serving with eight of 11 and three aces, while Ale Blackburn had nine of nine with one ace. Jessica Larson made seven of eight and Megan Alexander had six of six serves. Amanda Long made three of five serves with one ace and Sadie Forey had three of five serves.
At the net, Sadie Forey made 11 of 13 hits with five kills, while Amanda Long added six of nine hits. Alyssa Groshens made six of eight hits with three kills, while Ale Blackburn made five of five hits. Megan Alexander had four of four hits with 1 kill and Jessica Larson added two of four hits with a kill.
Megan Alexander dished out nine assists in the match. Sadie Forey dug out six shots, while Jessica Larson had five digs. Ale Blackburn and Alyssa Groshens both made three digs, while Megan Alexander and Amanda Long both had one dig each.
Against LM on Monday, RA fell by scores of 10-25, 13-25 and 13-25.
Jessica Larson had six of eight serves with one ace, while Sadie Forey made six of seven with three aces. Ale Blackburn added five of seven with an ace. Megan Alexander connected on three of four serves, while Alyssa Groshens and Caitlyn Reed both made two of four serves.
Sadie Forey made 10 of 18 hits with four kills, while Ale Blackburn made six of nine hits and Caitlyn Reed made six of six hits. Amanda Long added two of five hits, while Megan Alexander and Jessica Larson both had two of two hits and Alyssa Groshens made one of two hits.
Sadie Forey added four blocked shots and Megan Alexander handed out two assists.
Jessica Larson would dig out five shots, while Sadie Forey and Caitlyn Reed both made four digs. Alyssa Groshens and Amanda Long had two digs each and Megan Alexander dug out one shot.
“Serving was down for us and unfortunately, it seems like that kind of sets the tone for us,” noted RA Head Coach Kim Sierck. “If our serving is down, other parts of the game follow that path as well. I’d like to see things a little more aggressive at the net, especially when we are on in passing.”
The Raiders host Twin River Valley and Ventura in a triangular tonight (Thursday) at the RA gym.
