Wolverines Run Afoul Of North Sentral Kossuth

WEST BEND – Hosting the league leading team is usually not a very pleasant experience. Such was the case Friday night for the Wolverines of West Bend-Mallard. North Sentral Kossuth’s Eagles. The 6-0 Eagles handed West Bend-Mallard a 49-6 defeat to drop the Wolverines to 1-3 in Eight man District Two and 2-4 overall on the season.

North Sentral Kossuth would score early and often despite the valiant effort of the Wolverine defense. West Bend-Mallard’s offense was able to come up with one score, as Travis Goeders managed to pull in a Darin Banwart pass for the touchdown.

Overall on the night, the Wolverines were limited to 57 yards rushing off 24 carries and nine of 19 passes with two interceptions for 131 yards, giving the Wolverines a total of 188 yards on the night.

Matt Ruppert would lead the rushing with seven carries for 23 yards, while Andy Riesenberg added 11 carries for 20 yards. Ryan Banwart carried the ball twice for seven yards, with Jack Riesenberg making three rushes for five yards and Logan Streit adding one carry for two yards. Travis Goeders would make four catches for 103 yards, including his touchdown catch, while Andy Riesenberg pulled in four passes for 11 yards and matt Ruppert had a 17 yard catch.

Defensively, West Bend-Mallard was paced by the nine tackles of Logan Streit and eight stops from Aaron Johnson and Todd Goeders. Ryan Banwart, Travis Goeders and Jack Riesenberg all made seven tackles in the effort.

The Wolverines will have the excitement of Homecoming Week on their side this Friday when they welcome the Knights of Graettinger/Terril to West Bend for the renewal of a long-standing rivalry.
