Knights, Lady E’Hawks Struggle At ELC

ESTHERVILLE – In the second meeting of the year between the Graettinger/Terril Knights and Emmetsburg Lady E’Hawks, the Knights would take a 2-1 match win over the Lady E’Hawks during action at the Estherville Lincoln Central Tournament on Saturday.

The Knights downed Emmetsburg by game scores of 21-15 before losing the second game 16-21, but rallied to take the deciding third game by a 15-11 tally.

In other games played by the Knights on Saturday, they lost to Laurens-Marathon by 21-8 and 21-13, but split with Humboldt, 8-21 and 22-21.

On the day, G/T was led by Theresa Peterson with 14 kills, while Malorie Girres added nine kills and Dakota Hovinga and Tasha Neilson with six kills each. Lindsay Flaharty dished out 29 assists, while Theresa Peterson made 11 digs and Tasha Neilson had nine.

In serving, Girres and Hovinga both made 15 serves with two aces each and Peterson added 11 serves with four aces.

For Emmetsburg, the Lady E’Hawks suffered losses of 19-21 and 18-21 to Laurens-Marathon and 19-21 and 19-21 losses to Humboldt before going three games with the Knights.

The Lady E’Hawks got 20 of 27 serves with six aces from Mollie Smith, while 20 of 22 serves from Kayla Herbers with nine aces. Hannah Reichert was perfect with 21 of 21 serves with three aces.

Jackie Barnes added 21 of 23 serves with three aces and Bailee Moore made 13 of 14 serves with two aces, while Nichole Hasbrouck added five of eight serves.

At the net, Kayla Herbers made 36 of 38 hits with 18 kills, while Jackie Barnes added 24 of 32 hits with 12 kills. Morgan Vlasman came away with 23 of 29 hits and six kills, with Katelyn Schany adding 13 of 14 hits and five kills. Mollie Smith made 15 of 20 hits with four kills and Bailee Moore added nine of 14 hits with four kills.

Kayla Herbers had two solo blocks and an assist, while Jackie Barnes and Katelyn Schany each had two assists and Morgan Vlasman had one assist.

Mollie Smith dug out 23 shots, while Bailee Moore made eight digs. Nichole Hasbrouck dug out 14 shots and Hannah Reichert handed out 17 assists on the day and Bailee Moore made 26 sets.
