Wolverines Fall In Shootout
LAURENS – West Bend-Mallard’s Wolverines gave a fight worthy of their namesake mascot but came up short in a 52-40 loss to Laurens-Marathon Friday night. The Wolverines fall to 1-3 on the season and 0-2 in district play.
It would be a back-and-forth contest, as both teams would roll up over 400 yards of offense in the game. West Bend-Mallard would rack up 375 yards rushing off 41 attempts, and added 79 yards through the air off three of 12 passes with two interceptions of Darin Banwart passes.
Andy Riesenberg would score three touchdowns in the contest, as he led the rushing with 24 carries for 266 yards. Jack Riesenberg would run for the other touchdown, with 42 yards off seven carries. Darin Banwart rushed for 74 yards on five carries and Matt Ruppert added 11 yards off five carries.
Travis Goeders would score a touchdown off a 55 yard reception, while Andy Riesenberg made a 16 yard reception in the contest for the Wolverines.
Andy Riesenberg would tally 17 tackles while Todd Goeders added 15 stops to pace the defense.
The Wolverines will re-acquaint themselves with the Raiders of Ruthven-Ayrshire on Friday night when they travel to Ruthven.
