Lady E’Hawks Stumble At Spirit Lake
SPIRIT LAKE – Emmetsburg’s Lady E’Hawks are still looking for their first league victory following a 3-1 loss to Spirit Lake on Tuesday. Emmetsburg is 0-2 in Lakes Conference play and 1-7 overall as they prepare to host Cherokee tonight (Thursday) in a Lakes matchup.
Tuesday’s match at Spirit Lake saw Emmetsburg win the opening game of the contest by a 25-15 score, but Spirit Lake would come back to hold off the Lady E’Hawks to take the match by game scores of 15-25, 13-25 and 21-25.
On the night, Emmetsburg connected on 86 percent of its serves, making 66 of 76 attempts. Kayla Herbers led the serving with 17 of 19 completions and four aces, while Mollie Smith followed closely with 16 of 17 completions and two aces. Hannah Reichert added 13 of 13 serves with an ace and Bailee Moore came up with 10 of 11 serves. Katie Malm connected on seven of 10 serves with an ace and Jackie Barnes added three of six serves to the effort.
At the net, the Lady E’Hawks connected on 81 of 100 hitting attempts with 23 kills on the night. Kayla Herbers led the effort again with 28 of 31 hits and 10 kills, while Jackie Barnes put down 18 of 21 hits with five kills. Mollie Smith hammered 15 of 16 hits with five kills and Bailee Moore came away with 10 of 14 hits and a kill to her credit.
Morgan Vlasman would connect on eight on nine hits with two kills, while Katelyn Schany had four of five hits. Hannah Reichert made two of two hits and Katie Malm added a hit, while Jordan Morris came off the bench to add one hit.
Morgan Vlasman would assist on two blocks, while Kayla Herbers and Jackie Barnes each had an assisted block on the night.
Mollie Smith would end up digging out 17 shots in the match, while Kayla Herbers made 11 digs. Bailee Moore added 10 digs, with Jackie Barnes making six digs. Katie Malm had four digs, while Nichole Hasbrouck and Hannah Reichert both dug out two shots and Morgan Vlasman added a dig.
Katie Malm would dish out 12 assists on the night, while Hannah Reichert added five helpers. Nichole Hasbrouck, Kayla Herbers, Katelyn Schany and Morgan Vlasman each added an assist on the night.
“We need to be more consistent in our intensity,” noted Emmetsburg Head Coach Andrea Accola-Sabin. “We do things well at times and then not so well. We have to keep the intensity at a higher level in order to come away with these close games.”
