Mustangs Gallop Over Wolverines, 65-22
WEST BEND – When the state’s second-best team comes to play with most of its lineup from the previous season intact, the odds aren’t good if you’re the opponent. Such was the case Friday for the Wolverines of West Bend-Mallard as they were overrun by Armstrong-Ringsted by a 65-22 score.
The loss gives West Bend-Mallard a 1-2 mark overall and 0-1 in district play, as they regroup to go to Laurens-Marathon this Friday.
The Wolverines would get a pair of rushing touchdowns from Ethan Fehr off a four yard run, while quarterback Darin Banwart added a conversion run. Tight end Any Riesenberg would score off a 24 yard run, while Travis Goeders would haul in a 35 yard pass from Banwart to score.
West Bend-Mallard would rush the football 47 times for 190 yards in the contest, while Armstrong-Ringsted racked up 384 yards off 36 rushing plays. In the air, Banwart completed six of 15 passes for 68 yards while Armstrong-Ringsted connected on two of two for 33 yards.
Matt Ruppert would rush 12 times for 43 yards, while Andy Riesenberg added three carries for 35 yards. Logan Streit added six carries for 25 yards, while Jack Riesenberg rushed six times for 24 yards. Ethan Fehr added 13 yards off three rushes, while Ryan Banwart had a carry for seven yards and Steve Leners ran once for five yards.
Travis Goeders had three catches for 55 yards to lead the Wolverines.
Defensively, Todd Goeders made eight tackles, while Andy Riesenberg and Wyatt Wirtz both added seven tackles to the effort.
