West Bend-Mallard Earns Win Over NE Hamilton

BLAIRSBURG – The first win of the season for the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines came at the expense of Northeast Hamilton on Friday night. Coach Pete Kapustynski’s Wolverines got all facets of their game working to earn their first eight-man football victory. There is little time to celebrate, as the Wolverines will host Armstrong-Ringsted in a big district matchup this Friday night in WEst Bend.

The Wolverines were able to establish their running game on Friday night, as they ran the football 64 times for 337 yards, while the Wolverine defense made in nearly impossible for the Trojans to run, limiting Northeast Hamilton to a scant 30 yards off 28 rushing attempts.

West Bend-Mallard got four touchdowns from quarterback Darin Banwart and two touchdowns from Matt Ruppert and one from Jack Riesenberg.

Ruppert would gain 181 yards off 41 rushes, while Banwart had 117 yards off 17 carries, and completed six of 15 for 84 yards. Jack Riesenberg added 33 yards off five carries and Andy Riesenberg had one run for nine yards.

Defensively, Darin Banwart had seven stops and Todd Goeders made five tackles and blocked a punt. Aaron Johnson made four stops and also blocked a punt, while Andy Riesenberg tallied six tackles in the win, along with a quarterback sack for loss of yardage.
