Wolverines Fall In Eight-Man Opener
WEST BEND – The Wolverines of West Bend-Mallard put forth a spirited battle in their season opening game Friday night, but came up short by a 22-18 score against Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne.
The Wolverines were able to mix up their offense, scoring off a 23 yard run and one yard runs by quarterback Darin Banwart, and a 55 yard touchdown pass reception by Andy Riesenberg.
Darin Banwart would lead the Wolverines with 73 yards off 22 carries of the football, while Matt Ruppert would add 39 yards off 10 carries ad would make three catches for 53 yards. Jack Riesenberg added seven rushes for 63 yards in the contest.
Andy Riesenberg would have two catches for 93 yards and Travis Goeders had three receptions for 37 yards in the game.
Darrin Banwart would complete 20 passes for 183 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Overall, West Bend-Mallard racked up 389 yards while Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne had 290 yards of offense.
For the Wolverine defense,
Andy Riesenberg made 10 tackles, while Jack Riesenberg and Aaron Johnson both made seven stops and Todd Goeders added six tackles.
The Wolverines will play their second non-district opponent of the season this Friday night when they travel to Blairsburg to take on Northeast Hamilton
Kickoff for Friday’s game will be a 7 p.m.
