Hunter’s Tune-Up Shoot Planned

By Staff | Aug 26, 2008

The Palo Alto Sportsmen’s Ducks Unlimited Chapter will be sponsoring a free opportunity for area hunters to tune-up their shooting skills prior to the fall hunting seasons. The event will be at Sportsman’s Park north of Cylinder on Wednesday, September 3 from 5 – 7 pm. A sporting clays-style course will be set up to test shooters’ skills. Clay targets will be presented in ways to mimic actual hunting situations, as in flushing pheasants, overhead geese, incoming mallards, bouncing bunnies, double quail, and others. Ducks Unlimited will provide the targets with assistance from the Palo Alto Gun Club, and participants need only bring their shotguns and ammunition, 50 rounds of trap or similar loads recommended.

Prizes for top scoring shooters will be awarded.

“This will be a great chance for hunters in the area to get ready for this fall” according to Brian Hospelhorn, Area Chairman of the Palo Alto Sportsmen’s Ducks Unlimited chapter. “At the same time, we hope to get some new faces involved with our local chapter. This will be a great chance for area sportsmen to find out more about our upcoming banquet November 7”

“We would also like to use this event to inform participants about Ducks Unlimited and what we are doing in the state of Iowa, and more importantly in the local area” said Brian Garrels, District Chairman for Iowa Ducks Unlimited, North Region. “Iowa DU will raise over $1.3 million throughout the state this year, but have projects slated to spend in excess of $1.5 million, the majority of which will be on projects here in northwest Iowa. That indicates how fragile and vital our natural resources are, and how important DU has determined this area is to waterfowl in North America.”
