All State Softball Honorees Named

Softball players from Emmetsburg, West Bend-Mallard and Graettinger/Terril have been honored with selection to the Iowa Softball Coaches Association All State Softball Teams. The post-season honors, bestowed following voting by softball coaches around the state, were announced at the beginning of this week.

A pair of Lady E’Hawks from Emmetsburg earned roster positions on the Class 2A All State First Team and Third Team.

Sophomore pitcher Maddison Woodruff was named as a utility player on the First Team All State Squad in Class 2A by the coaches. As the pitcher for Emmetsburg’s Lady E’Hawks, Woodruff compiled a record of 25-9 in the circle, striking out 336 batters and garnering a 1.12 ERA on the season.

Joining her teammate on the All State Team was sophomore catcher Alex Lock, who was selected as a utility player on the Third Team All State squad. During the season, Lock batted .313 for the Lady E’Hawks and issued 24 RBI’s on the season.

West Bend-Mallard’s Lady Wolverines had three players earn Honorable Mention Recognition in Class 1A from the state’s coaches. Juniors Kayla Hartman and Michaela Grimm, along with senior Kari Zinnel, were all selected to the Honorable Mention team. Hartman was honored for her play at shortstop for the Lady Wolverines, while Grimm was cited as a pitcher, and Zinnel honored as a utility player for West Bend-Mallard.

Rounding out the selections locally was Theresa Peterson, a junior infielder for the Knights of Graettinger/Terril. Peterson was also accorded Honorable Mention recognition on the Class 1A team by the coaches.

Several other players from the region earned recognition on the All State Teams.

In Class 2A, Jenna Richter of Bishop Garrigan of Algona was accorded Honorable Mention recognition, along with Kristen Twait of Manson Northwest Webster, Alison VonEhwegen, Amanda VonEhwegen and Katelyn Jones, all of Okoboji were accorded Honorable Mention as well.

Also receiving Honorable Mention recognition in Class 2A were Jenni Stumpf and Desiree Schnell of Pocahontas Area.

In Class 1A, Third Team All State honors were presented to Amy Leach of Armstrong-Ringsted as a pitcher. The junior had a record of 21-4 with an ERA of 0.66.

Also earning Third Team Honors in Class 1A was Megan Roling of North Sentral Kossuth as an outfielder. Roling batted .449 and had 28 RBI’s on the season.

A pair of Armstrong-Ringsted players earned Honorable Mention Honors in Class 1A, as seniors April Gunderson, at third base, and teammate Lisa Pelzer, an outfielder, were both honored by the state’s coaches.

In Class 3A, Lakes Conference honorees included Slone Masters and Amanda Proczak on the Second Team from Storm Lake, Emily Wassom from Spencer and Emily TeBrink of LeMars.

Earning Third Team honors in 3A was Erin Beardsley of Estherville Lincoln Central.

Honorable Mention honorees from the Lakes Conference in Class 3A included Christa Clayton, Amanda Christensen and Kristi Juergens all of ELC; Kellie Carstens and Liz Doppenberg of Spencer; Megan Ingvall, Caila Jones and Mary Brown of Spirit Lake and Michaela Brungardt, Amber Woodford and Katie Blum, all of Storm Lake.
