DNR Reports Good Fishing

The following information is furnished by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Bureau.

Spirit Lake (Dickinson): Walleye anglers are working the weed lines and rock reefs with crankbaits and live bait at Templar Park, Marble Beach, Cottonwood, Big Stoney, Little Stoney and Red Nose points. Look for crappies along weed lines on the main lake or in Anglers Bay. Anglers are catching smallmouth bass fishing the rock reefs and weed lines around Big Stoney, Little Stoney, Cottonwood points or at the footbridge using crankbaits, jerk baits and leeches, or top-water lures in the evening. Drift fish with a split shot rig or Pilkies and live bait along weed lines and rock piles for bluegills. Yellow perch are being caught by fishing the rock reefs and weed lines at Buffalo Run or Little Stoney with live bait. For northern pike, troll or cast along weed lines and cabbage beds in the main lake or in Anglers Bay.

East Okoboji Lake (Dickinson): Anglers are catching walleyes fishing the Hwy. 71 and Hinshaw’s bridges in the evening with a jig. White bass are being caught at Hinshaw’s Bridge with a jig and minnow. Fish rock reefs on the south end of the lake using small jigs tipped with small minnow for yellow bass. Bluegills and yellow perch are being caught at the south end of the lake as well. For muskies, fish Stony Point south towards Jingle’s Point for suspended fish relating to weed lines and rock reefs. Channel catfish are biting on stink-baits fished along the drop-offs on the south end of the lake.

West Okoboji Lake (Dickinson): Anglers are catching largemouth bass working the docks and weed lines in Brown’s, North, Emerson, and Millers bays. For smallmouth bass, fish rock reefs in Miller’s Bay, Pocahontas, Fort Dodge, Pillsbury and Gull points with jerk baits, soft plastics, crawdads and leeches. Fish the weed line at North, Miller’s, Smith, or Emerson bays with a split shot rig baited with worms, leeches, or small crawdads for bluegills. Fish the weed lines at Triboji, Emerson, Smith’s, or Millers bays with live bait for yellow perch. Walleye anglers are fishing the weed lines around Pillsbury Point, Emerson and Miller’s bays with crankbaits or live bait on spinner rigs. For northern pike, troll crankbaits or cast along weed edges. For muskies, fish the weed lines at North, Smith’s, and Emerson bays

Five Island Lake (Palo Alto): Anglers are catching channel catfish drift fishing with cut bait, or using stink bait by the railroad bridge.

West Fork Des Moines River: Fish on the upstream side of brush piles with crawdads for channel catfish

Little Sioux River: Fish around brush piles with stick bait or cut bait for channel catfish.

Storm Lake (Buena Vista): Fishing is fair to good for catfish on shrimp.

North Twin Lake (Calhoun): Fishing is fair to good for catfish and fair for yellow bass on jigs tipped with cut bait.

Brushy Creek (Webster): Fishing has slowed. Anglers are catching lots of small bluegill and bass on live bait. Most large fish have moved into cooler water. Water clarity is fair.
