Lady E’Hawks Earn Lakes All Conference Honors
The 2008 softball season will be one to be remembered for the Emmetsburg Lady E’Hawks. Not only did the Lady E’Hawks earn a State Softball Tournament berth and tie for second place in the Lakes Conference, five members of the Lady E’Hawks also earned All-Lakes Conference Softball honors at the conclusion of the regular season. The honors are voted on by the Lakes Conference softball coaches at the conclusion of the regular season.
For Coach Jeny Garst’s squad, sophomore pitcher Maddison Woodruff was one of eight unanimous selections to the Lakes Conference First Team.
Woodruff was a unanimous First Team pitcher, as she racked up 336 strikeouts during the season, allowing 122 hits, 46 walks in the 31 games she has pitched, giving her an earned run average of 1.12.
Joining Woodruff on the First Team was sophomore shortstop Nichole Hasbrouck as an Infielder. Hasbrouck has been an offensive force for the Lady E’Hawks,leading the team in hits with 39, and scoring 28 runs on the season while coming up with 25 RBI’s during the campaign. Hasbrouck has come up with nine doubles, three triples and two home runs, while earning four walks on the season, making three sacrifices and striking out 11 times for a .371 batting average and slugging percentage of .571. Defensively, Hasbrouck has made 24 put outs, assisted on 26 outs to earn a defensive percentage of .877.
Rounding out the First team selections for Emmetsburg is sophomore catcher Alex Lock as a Utility player. Lock led Emmetsburg in home runs during the season, sending nine shots over the fence, while coming up with 30 hits and scoring 26 runs and 24 RBI’s. Lock has six doubles to go with her nine homers, and drew 17 walks and a sacrifice while striking out 28 times for a .313 batting average and .676 slugging percentage.
Behind the plate, Lock made 10 put outs and assisted on 12 outs, making 26 catches for a defensive percentage of .846,
The Lady E’Hawks also had two players earn Honorable Mention recognition for their play on the season.
Sophomores Kendall Corley and Jenny Hoch were both accorded the Honorable Mention Honors.
Kendall Corley provided solid play for Emmetsburg in the outfield and also held a solid position in the offense, as she tallied 24 hits on the season, scored 14 runs and had 22 RBI’s. Corley came up with three doubles, a triple and four home runs while drawing 11 walks, issuing three sacrifices and striking out 17 times, giving her a .286 batting average and a .488 slugging percentage. Corley made eight put outs for a defensive average of .727.
Jenny Hoch held down third base despite losing almost two weeks due to an injury. Hoch had 23 hits with 16 runs, eight RBI’s, one double, two triples, walked eight times and struck out 17 times with one sacrifice for a .291 batting average and .354 slugging percentage. On defense, Hoch had 13 put outs, assisted on 26 outs and had a defensive percentage of .907.
