Hunter Safety Course Offered
An Iowa Hunter Safety Course is planned for Friday and Saturday, August 8 and 9 from 9 a..m. to 3 p.m. both days. The course will be held at the Lost Island Prairie Wetlands Nature Center at Lost Island Lake near Ruthven.
Students must be present for both days of the class in order to successfully complete the class.
Iowa law requires that any person born after January 1, 1967, who wishes to obtain a hunting license in the state of Iowa, must successfully complete a Hunter Safety Course. In order to participate in the course, all attendees must be at least 12 years of age.
In order to sign up for the Hunter Safety Course, participants must pre-register at the Natural Resources Conservation Service offices, which are located at 3302 Main Street in Emmetsburg, or at the Nature Center at Lost Island Lake by Friday, August 1.
At the time of pre-registration, students will receive a student handbook. They must read the book, and fill out the questions at the end of the handbook, as well as bring the handbook with them to the class sessions on Friday and Saturday.
Additionally, at the time of registration, each student’s Social Security number will be required, along with their date of birth.
With classes being held at the Nature Center at Lost Island Lake, all students will need to bring a sack lunch with them on both days. Students are also not to bring any type of firearms with them to the classes.
