Lady E’Hawks Fourth At Conference Track Meet

ESTHERVILLE – Emmetsburg’s Lady E’Hawks continued to improve their times with a fourth place finish at the 2008 Lakes Conference Track Meet Monday. In addition, three events earned All Conference Honors for the Lady E’Hawks during the event.

“The girls did a great job of competing from the field events to the running events,” noted Emmetsburg Head Coach Jeff Brennan. “Storm Lake and Spirit Lake will do very well in Class 3A at the State Track Meet.”

Emmetsburg’s lone individual All Conference honoree was Mariah Andreasen, who finished second in the high jump, clearing 4’10” and tying a season’s personal best mark.

The Lady E’Hawks’ Shuttle Hurdle Relay, with Nicole Leuer, Katie Malm, Bailee Moore and Kayla Herbers, took second place with a 1:07.63 and also set a best time of the season for All Conference recognition and the Sprint Medley Relay, with Mollie Smith, Jaimee Kerber, Tacee Leebens and Kayla Herbers, also took second place with a season’s best time of 1:54.50, to earn All Conference honors.

Emmetsburg’s 4×200 relay, with Katie Malm, Jaimee Kerber, Mollie Smith and Kayla Herbers, finished third with a 1:15.12, setting a new relay’s best time for the season. In the 100 meter hurdles, Kayla Herbers finished third with a :15.91 time and Nicole Leuer was fourth in :16.59. Morgan Vlasman earned fourth place in the high jump as she set a new personal best in clearing 4’8″.

Jaimee Kerber earned fourth place in the long jump by leaping 15’6.25“, while the 4×100 relay, with Mollie Smith, Tacee Leebens, Jordan Kerber and Jaimee Kerber, placed fifth with a season’s best time of :53.24.

The Distance Medley Relay, with Jordan Kerber, Nicole Leuer, Molli Schmeling and Tacee Leebens earned seventh place with a 4:44.84, their season’s best time. The 4×400 relay, with Tacee Leebens, Bailee Moore, Molli Schmeling and Kaitlin Weisbrod also finished seventh with a time of 4:29.39, their best effort of the year as well. Jordan Kerber rounded out the placings with an eighth place effort in the 100 meter dash off her :13.38 time.

Several personal records were also set by Lady E’Hawks, including Mara Lee with a time of 6:43.56 in the 1500 meter run and Katie Malm with a :28.28 in the 200 meter dash. Blake Schany set a personal best in the 400 meter dash with her 1:09.81 and Alex Lock set a personal record in the discus with a throw of 99′.

“Our girls ran against some stiff competition Monday and ran really well,” Brennan noted. “We will have to be at our best on Saturday at the Regional meet in Eagle Grove, as the top two in each event qualify for the State Meet, and then the next best eight performances from across the state.”

The Class 2A Girls Regional Track Meet will be held this Saturday, May 10, at Eagle Grove High School, hosted by Eagle Grove High School, with action starting at 10 a.m. The State Track and Field Meet is set for Thursday through Saturday, May 15-17, on the Jim Duncan Track at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
