E’Hawks Earn Fourth Place Finish At Lakes Meet

ESTHERVILLE – Emmetsburg’s E’Hawks earned four All Conference honorees and brought home a fourth place finish from the 2008 Lakes Conference Track meet on Monday.

Spirit Lake, Storm Lake and LeMars finished ahead of the E’Hawks, who accumulated 66.5 points in the event.

The E’Hawks had a trio of first place finishes on Monday, starting with Jordan Mathisen in the shot put. Mathisen won the shot with his throw of 51’10” to earn All Conference Honors, while in the 110 High Hurdles, Ethan Dykstra came back after breaking a wrist in a fall last Thursday during the event to win with a time of :14.97 to collect his All Conference honors.

The E’Hawks’ Shuttle Hurdle Relay Team continued to better their times, as they blew the competition away on Monday, winning in a time of :58.19. The quartet of Jake Vaughan, Jake Morris, Trevor Dettmann and Ethan Dykstra all received All Conference honors for the achievement.

Rounding out Emmetsburg’s All Conference performances was Trevor Dettmann in the 110 High Hurdles, as he finished second in a time of :15.04.

Emmetsburg’s 4×100 relay, with Jake Vaughan, Trevor Dettmann, Mitch Wagner and Ethan Dykstra, finished third in :45.49, while the 4×200 relay, with Bobby Mortenson, Tommy Kuecker, Justin DeFord and Mitch Wagner, placed fourth with a 1:34.33 time.

Ethan Dykstra took fourth in the 400 low hurdles in :59.47 and Trevor Dettmann was fourth in the High Jump, leaping 19’8.5″.

The 1600 meter Medley Relay, with Bobby Mortenson, Mitch Wagner, Tommy Kuecker and Kyle Janssen, took fifth with a 3:52.54 clocking, while Jared Janssen earned a fie for fifth place in the high jump, clearing 5’6” in the competition.

Justin DeFord would earn a sixth place finish in the 200 meter dash, turning in a time of :23.97 and Lucas Thomsen rounded out Emmetsburg’s placings on Monday, taking seventh place in the shot put, throwing 44’1/2″.

The E’Hawks will spend the rest of the week preparing for Saturday’s Class 2A District Track meet at Eagle Grove. The top three finishers in each event at the district meet qualify to compete in the State Track and Field Championships on May 15-17 on the Jim Duncan Track at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
