Boys Battle Weather Conditions In County Meet

By Staff | Apr 29, 2008

Normally, you might battle a breeze, perhaps a little cooler temperature, or perhaps a little mist when golfing in April.

For the Palo Alto County Boys Golf meet on Friday, it wasn’t one or the other – it was the whole gamut of weather extremes. Golfers from Graettinger/Terril, West Bend-Mallard and Emmetsburg turned out to play on a soggy Wild Rose Golf Course after two-plus inches of rain had fallen overnight and during the morning hours on Friday.

Add in mist, a blustery west-northwesterly wind, and sprinkle in an occasional shower of snow pellets, along with upper 30’s for temperatures, and it made for an interesting nine holes of golf.

When the last flurry had melted away, Emmetsburg claimed the top honors both team and individually on Friday. Robbie Myers led the field with a 41, while teammate Marc Siemers shot a 42 to earn the medal and runner up medalist honors.

Emmetsburg would shoot a team 169, while Graettinger/Terril followed with a 186 and West Bend-Mallard carded a 198. Ruthven-Ayrshire did not compete in Friday’s event.
