E’Hawks Second At Spirit Lake Invitational

SPIRIT LAKE – E’Hawk golfers turned in a round of 339 to place second overall in Saturday’s Spirit Lake Invitational Golf Tournament. Spencer took the team honors with a 306 total over the 18-hole tournament, played at Brooks National Golf Course in Okoboji. Along with the E’Hawks were Spencer, Okoboji, LeMars, Estherville Lincoln Central and the host Spirit Lake Indians.

Spencer took both of the medalist honors, as freshman Jay Monahan carded a 72 over the eight holes for the low score of the day, followed by teammate Craig Cunningham with a 75.

For the E’Hawks of Emmetsburg, Robbie Myers put together rounds of 38 and 42 to come up with an 80 for the day. Matt Wellik carded a 43 and a 42 for an 85 stroke total, while Tyler Kliegl shot a 42 and 44 for an 86.

Matt Stillman shot a 47 and a 41 for an 88, while Marc Siemers added a 42 and 47 for an 89 stroke score. Rounding out the effort for the E’Hawks was Ben McCain with his rounds of 44 and 47 for a 91.

The E’Hawks also golfed last Thursday at Hull in a Lakes Conference triangular with Western Christian an d LeMars. Emmetsburg was victorious in the event, shooting a 164 to edge out Western with a 169 and LeMars with a a 174 stroke total.

Tyler Kliegl earned the meet medal honors with his round of 39,while teammate Matt Wellik earned the runner-up honors off a tie-breaker with a 40.

Other Emmetsburg scoring included Marc Siemers with a 42, while Robbie Myers and Matt Stillman both shot rounds of 43 and Bill Pelzer added a 49.

In the Junior Varsity match the E’Hawks claimed a three-stroke, 175-178 win over LeMars and Western Christian, who shot a 190.

Ben McCain was the JV medalist, shooting a round of 39, while Coleton Brown of LeMars was the runner-up medalist with a round of 42.

For the E’Hawk JV, McCain’s round of 39 paced the way, while Matt Ballman carded a 44 and Nate Brown shot a 45. Brett Wollum shot a 47, with Nate Schany carding a 50 and Josh Kummer rounding out the effort with a round of 63.

The E’Hawks will host the Palo Alto County Meet this Friday, April 25, at the Wild Rose Golf Course.
