POCAHONTAS – The girls golf season opened Tuesday night with a five-stroke, 210-215 victory for the Lady E’Hawks of Emmetsburg. Coach Ted Riley’s golfers handed the host Maidens of Pocahontas Area the defeat on the same course that will host the 2A District golf meet later next month.

“It was colder than we’d like, but it was still good to get the win in the first match of the season,” Riley noted.

Emmetsburg’s Katie Heddinger would capture the meet medalist honors,as she carded a round of 49 to lead the field.

Teammate Abby Bird earned the runner-up honors, carding a 52 over her nine holes at the Pocahontas Golf Club.

The remainder of Emmetsburg’s varsity scoring included Sara Schany with a 54, while April Corley shot a 55. Newcomer Megan Myers shot a 58 in her first high school meet and Tori Heldt rounded out the scoring with a 63.
