E’Hawk Linksters Down Humboldt In Opener
HUMBOLDT – Emmetsburg’s boys golf team opened its season Monday with a 162-171 victory over the Wildcats of Humboldt. Emmetsburg’s junior varsity was also victorious, earning a 177-233 win over the Wildcat reserves at the Humboldt Country Club.
Matt Wellik took the meet medalist honors on Monday with his low score of 38, while teammate Brett Wollum added a round of 40 for the runner-up medal.
For the E’Hawk varsity, Robbie Myers shot a 41, with while Tyler Kliegl and Bill Pelzer both shot rounds of 48 and Matt Ballman rounded out the effort with a 47.
In the Junior Varsity match, Emmetsburg was paced by Arthur Heldt’s round of 32, while Ben McCain shot a 44 for the runner-up honors. Eric Pelzer and Nate Brown both shot 45-stroke rounds, while Kory Hagen carded a 50 and Justin Kibbie shot a 57 to round out the JV effort.
Coach Tom Hoover’s squad travels to Hull this afternoon (Thursday) for a dual with the Wolfpack and LeMars Bulldogs, and then journeys to Pocahontas on Friday, April 11, for a dual with the Indians and the Spencer Tigers.
The E’Hawk swill host one of their two home meets for the season on Monday, April 14, when they will welcome ELC and Cherokee to the Wild Rose Golf Club.
