Track And Field Season Opens At Lakes Indoor Meet
STORM LAKE – The 2008 track and field season opened Tuesday night with the Lakes Conference Indoor Meet. The annual event was held at the Lamberti Recreation Center at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake.
Coach Joe Carter’s E’Hawks earned a pair of first place finishes on Tuesday, starting with Jordan Mathisen’s throw of 50’10” in the shot put, and the 55 meter hurdle mark of :07.81 turned in by Trevor Dettmann in winning the event.
The E’Hawks were strong in the 55 meter hurdles, as Ethan Dykstra was fourth with a :08.27, while Jake Morris was fifth in :08.32 and Jake Vaughan finished seventh with a :08.34 clocking.
In the 1600 meter run, Allen Dunnick was 18th in 5:39.68 and Jared Janssen finished 21st in a time of 5:53.99. The 800 meter run had Bobby Gappa finished 16th with a 2:26.40 time, while Allen Dunnick was 22nd in 2:31.20 and Yu Jae Kim finished 26th in 2:48.61.
For the 200 meter dash, Trevor Dettmann would earn fourth with a :25.02 clocking, while Flroian Hoese was 11th in :26.39 and Trevor Harson finished 25th with his :29.09 time.
In the 55 meter dash, Langston Jones was ninth with a :07.02, while Mitch Wagner finished 17th with :07.09 and Keaton Carter was 25th in :07.29.
Trevor Dettmann took eighth in the high jump, clearing 5’4″ and in the long jump, Taylor Morris took eighth by leaping 18’7.25” and Jake Morris was ninth with a leap of 18’4.50″.
In the shot put, Lucas Thomsen would come up with a tenth place finish with his throw of 42’7“, while JC Rezabek would place 13th with a throw of 41’9.75”. Josh Wolfe had a toss of 39’7.75″, good for 16th place, while Chris Kollasch threw 32′.
The E’Hawks had a pair of squads in the 4×200 relay and a pair of teams in the 4×400 relay event. In the 4×200, the quartet of Bobby Mortenson, Tommy Kuecker, Justin DeFord and Mitch Wagner placed fifth with a time of 1:40.98, while the foursome of Justin Hotchkiss, Joey Naig, Jake Morris and Travis Ring, finished 10th.
In the 4×400 relay, the quartet of Bobby Mortenson, tommy Kuecker, Justin DeFord and Keaton Carter would turn in a time of 3:51.83 for 10th place, while the foursome of Bobby Gappa, Kyle Elbert, Joey Naig and Justin Hotchkiss finished 17th with a time of 4:06.64.
The E’Hawks will take this outing to use as a benchmark as they continue to work this week and next for their first full outdoor meet of the season, the KUOO Invitational on Thursday, March 27, at Spirit Lake.
