O’Round The Loch Runs Approaching
Neither snow nor rain nor inclement weather of any type will put up a roadblock for the annual “O’Round the Loch Run” of St. Patrick’s Day in Emmetsburg. The 28th edition of the annual event is set for next Saturday, March 15, as one of the events for the 48th annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration
The annual O’Round The Loch Runs will open Saturday’s activities at 8:30 a.m. The runs will once again feature the traditional events; half-marathon, 10K, 5K and 1.7 mile Fun Run/Walk. All of the races will start at the parking lot of the Arthur and Audrey Smith Wellness Center at Iowa Lakes Community College.
The Half-Marathon event, covering 13.1 miles, will get underway at 8:30 a.m. The traditional marathon is also set up for a relay event, so that a team of four runners, with each runner covering 3.275 miles, can run.
At designated water stations along the half-marathon route, the team mates will pass a baton, like a regular relay race.
At 8:40 a.m., the 10 kilometer, or 6.2 mile race will begin, to be followed by the 5 kilometer, or 3.1 mile race, starting at 9 a.m. The Fun Run/Walk event of 1.7 miles will also start at 9:00 a.m.
All events will start on North Superior Street adjacent to the Arthur and Audrey Smith Wellness Center, and the finish lines for all of the events will be in the parking lot of the Smith Wellness Center at Iowa Lakes Community College.
There will be seven divisions in each event, divided by age of the contestant: 13 & Under, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60 & Over.
