MANSON — A tough night of scoring for the Emmetsburg E’Hawks made a big difference in their 50-31 loss to St. Edmonds of Fort Dodge in first round Class 2A boys tournament play Wednesday night, Feb. 13.

The loss ended Emmetsburg’s season with a 10-11 mark.

Emmetsburg was able to force the Gaels of St. Edmonds into the E’Hawk style of play in the first half, taking the Gaels out of their normal fast-paced offensive attack. The two teams battled to a19-17 tally at the intermission, with Emmetsburg trailing by the bucket to go into the locker room.

But in the second half, St. Edmonds switched the tempo of the contest to their style of play, the Gaels went on a 10-3 run to start the half that put Emmetsburg in a big hole. The E’Hawks did their best to counter the effects of St. Ed’s rapid-paced game, but timely three-pointers by the Gaels helped push them out to the 50-31 final score that ended Emmetsburg’s season.

The St. Eds defense did its job well, with Emmetsburg’s Trevor Dettmann and Tyler Kliegl leading the offense with six points each. Brett Wollum, Jack Geelan and Ryan Wuebker all added four points each, whiel Langston Jones chipped in three points and Tommy Kuecker and Nick Wubker rounded out the efforts with two ponts each.
