Raiders Advance To 1A District Semi-Final With Victory Over NSK
ARMSTRONG – The post season opened on a positive note last Thursday for the Ruthven-Ayrshire Raiders. Ruthven-Ayrshire claimed a 67-61 victory over North Sentral Kossuth in a Class 1A District quarterfinal tournament game Thursday night, Feb. 14, in Armstrong.
With the win, Ruthven-Ayrshire advances into a District Semi-Final tournament game tonight (Tuesday) against Twin River Valley at 7 p.m. Feb. 19 at Armstrong-Ringsted High School.
“We played a little tight in this game since this was the first tournament game,” admitted Ruthven-Ayrshire Head Coach Randy Hough. “But, our defense kept us in the game.”
Solid defense by the Raiders kept them in the game early against the North Sentral Kossuth squad, who had played one game earlier last week before meeting the Raiders.
But after getting their jitters under control, the Raiders began to put their game together. With balanced scoring by the Raiders, Ruthven-Ayrshire was able to gradually take a slight lead and go on to take the six-point, 67-61 win and advancement in the post-season.
For Ruthven-Ayrshire, Andy Rowlands would pace the offensive attack with 22 points in the game. Tyler Enderson added a bakers’ dozen 13 points to the coffers, while Brad Geelan came away with 10 points. Ryan Sikora scored eight points, while Cody Zielstra tacked on seven points and Carl Jensen added six points. Ryan Hoffman rounded out the Ruthven-Ayrshire scoring with a free throw for one point.
Defensively, the Raiders got seven rebounds from Andy Rowlands, while Tyler Enderson added five boards. Brad Geelan dished out six assists to his teammates, while Andy Rowland blocked two shots. Ryan Sikora, Ryan Hoffman and Andy Rowlands all made two steals in the win.
