E’Hawk JV Downs Spirit Lake
The season came to a close last week for the Emmetsburg E’Hawk junior varsity boys. The young E’Hawks closed their campaign with a 33-28 win over Spirit Lake.
Emmetsburg trailed at the end of the first quarter of play by a 10-7 margin, but in the second quarter, the JV would get their offense flowing and were able to out-score Spirit Lake 10-7 in the quarter for a 17-17 deadlock at the intermission.
Coach Phil Geelan’s E’Hawks would continue to battle the young Indians tough on both ends of the floor, working to a 23-23 tie at the end of the third quarter.
But in the final quarter, Emmetsburg managed to make a couple of defensive stops on Spirit Lake and then went to the other end of the floor and capitalized on turnovers to edge out to a lead that would turn into the 33-28 final margin of victory.
Emmetsburg got a 13 point scoring effort out of Nick Wuebker on the night, while Nate Brown was right on his heels with 12 points to his credit. Tommy Kuecker would add four points, as did teammate Langston Jones to round out the scoring.
Emmetsburg made 13 of 24 inside the arc and held the Indians to a meager six out of 22 shot attempts in the win.
“We finished our JV season at 9 – 8 after a hard fought season,” Geelan noted. Against Spirit Lake, our defense was just outstanding. This was a very good team victory to finish our JV basketball season.”
