GRAETTINGER – The Knights of Graettinger/Terril will send four wrestlers on to the Class 1A District tournament this coming Saturday after action last weekend at the 1A Sectional tourney at Laurens.

Top-ranked Jake Hoffman will return to the District tournament at 189 pounds for the Knights, along with 103 pounder James Tatman, 215 pounder Joel McGrauth and 285 pounder Kyle Brown.

At 189, Hoffman earned his Sectional title with a 1:33 win by fall over Dalton Garner of Prairie Valley and then won the title with a 1:56 win by fall over Tom Brinkman of Pocahontas Area.

In action at 103 pounds, James Tatman wrestled just once on Saturday, drawing a first-round bye before earning his championship with a 2:20 win by fall over Lance Maguire of Fort Dodge St. Edmonds.

Joel McGrauth earned a pair of pins and a decision in his Sectional appearance at 215 pounds, starting with a 1:01 win by fall over Chris Sievers of Sioux Central at 215 pounds. McGrauth then pinned cody Simpson of Laurens-Marathon in 5:49 and then earned the championship with a 3-0 decision victory over Andy Tews of Manson Northwest Webster.

At Heavyweight, Kyle Brown won the top honors with a :51 win by fall over Matt Heflin of Sioux Central and a 1:26 win by fall over Clay Wentzel of Pocahontas Area before he won a 7-3 decision over Jack Michaelski of Pocahontas Area to win the 285 pound championship.

Other finishes for the Knights included third place finishes by Michael Jensen at 135 pounds and Kass Schany at 160 pounds. Ryan Schany at 112 pounds and Logan Tonderum at 140 pounds both finished in fourth place and at 171 pounds, Josh Anderson would earn a fifth place finish.

“Our four district qualifiers all wrestled very well on Saturday,” noted Graettinger/Terril Head Coach Cody Alesch. “this was our worst tournament as a team all year, as we let several matches go the other way. At this time of the year, you need to be on top of your game and several kids just were not. Even though some seasons come to a close, those kids still have a lot to be proud of.”

The Knights will take part in Class 1A District tournament action at Manson on Saturday, Feb. 9. Action will begin at 12 noon.
