Raiders Manhandle West Bend-Mallard
RUTHVEN – It took a while to get going but the Ruthven-Ayrshire Raiders came away with a 90-57 win over West Bend-Mallard in Cornbelt Conference boys basketball action Friday night.
The Wolverines made a game out of it in the first half, putting the Raiders down by as many as 10 points during the first half, but in the second half, the Raiders came out and applied their pressure defense to near-perfection against the Wolverines and pulled away to take the win.
For Ruthven-Ayrshire, Tyler Enderson led the way with 24 points, while while Brad Geelan added 18 points. Andy Rowlands came up with 13 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double. Ryan Sikora chipped in 12 points to the effort and Cody Zielstra scored eight points, while Carl Jensen chipped in six points. Ryan Hoffman tallied four points, with Al Japenga scoring three points and Shawn Molitor added two points to round out the effort.
“We got off to a very slow start, partly because West Bend-Mallard was playing very well,” noted RA Head Coach Randy Hough. “Finally, our pressure started to take effect and we were able to pull away for the win. We shot the ball well from the outside, hitting 10 of 23 shots.”
The Raiders will travel to North Sentral Kossuth on Friday and make up their game with Graettinger/Terril on Friday, Feb. 8 at Graettinger.
