Lady Wolverines Down Raiders
RUTHVEN – A slow quarter on the offense doomed the Raider girls of Ruthven-Ayrshire in a Cornbelt Conference matchup with West Bend-Mallard on Friday night as the Lady Wolverines claimed a 60-38 win over the Raiders.
The score was knotted up at 12-12 at the end of the first quarter, but RA went stone cold and hit just four points, while West Bend-Mallard cracked off 21 points to take a 33-16 lead at the half.
Ruthven-Ayrshire continued to struggle in the third quarter, scoring just seven points to trail 23-46 at the end of the third and West Bend-Mallard went on to claim the 60-38 win.
For Ruthven-Ayrshire, chelsey Reed had 16 points while Cassidy Smith added 13 points. Lynn Geelan chipped in five points and Megan Alexander had three markers, with Ashley Forey rounding out the scoring with two points.
Chelsey Reed pulled down eight rebounds for the Raiders, while Lynn Geelan added seven boards to the effort.
“West Bend-Mallard is a strong rebounding team and they took full advantage of our offensive struggles,” noted RA Head Coach Jon Josephson.
After their Tuesday game was postponed, the RA girls will play a make-up game with Graettinger/Terril tonight (Jan. 31) at Graettinger. A junior varsity boys game will be played at 6:30 p.m. to be followed by the girls’ varsity game.
