RA Girls Defeated By Lady Mavericks
RUTHVEN – The quickness and good shooting of the Lady Mavericks of Clay Central-Everly spelled trouble for the Ruthven-Ayrshire girls Tuesday night. The Raiders came up on the wrong side of an 86-38 score in Cornbelt Conference play.
The Raiders trailed 15-8 after one quarter of play and 40-18 at the intermission.
“Our biggest concern coming into the game was to keep our turnovers and their steals to a minimum,” noted RA Head Coach Jon Josephson. “We were able to accomplish that for the first seven minutes of the game and then we succumbed to their defensive pressure.”
In the second half, Clay Central-Everly simply ran away from the Raiders, outscoring RA 25-11 in the third quarter for a 50-29 lead and then went on to tally the 86-38 final score.
Ruthven-Ayrshire was led by Cassidy Smith with 16 points, while Lynn Geelan chipped in 10 points. chelsey Reed added six markers, while Megan Alexander had three points, Sadie Forey added two points and Caitlyn Reed added a free throw.
Lynn Geelan led the defense with six rebounds.
“We had very consistent scoring effort and we saw a bit of a spark in our perimeter game,” Josephson noted.
The Raiders have little time to rest, as they will host West Bend-Mallard in conference play Friday night at Ruthven.
