Lady E’Hawks Play Hard Against Wolfpack
The Lady E’Hawks of Emmetsburg played a solid game of basketball against Western Christian on Tuesday night, but ended up on the bottom of a 53-35 final score. The loss gives Emmetsburg a mark of 1-11 in the Lakes Conference and 4-12 overall on the season.
Going up against a taller Western Christian ball club on Tuesday, Emmetsburg came out ready to play and proceeded to play right with the Wolfpack through the first quarter, trailing by a bucket, 14-12 at the end of the first frame.
In the second quarter, Emmetsburg continued to match Western Christian’s offense, making some defensive stops to counter the Wolfpack. When the quarter ended, Western Christian held a one-point, 24-23 lead at the intermission, while Emmetsburg had some confidence that they could play right with the Wolfpack.
However, Western Christian began to edge away from the Lady E’Hawks in the second half, as Emmetsburg’s shooting touch began to cool somewhat, but Emmetsburg was not out of the fight by any means, trailing by just five points, 36-31 at the end of the third quarter.
The shooting touch would chill in the final quarter, as Emmetsburg simply couldn’t buy a basket against Western Christian’s defense, scoring just four points in the final period of the contest. In the meantime, Western Christian was hitting their shots down the stretch and gradually pulled away to take the 18 point margin of victory.
For Emmetsburg, Bailee Moore and Kayla Herbers both scored eight points in the contest, with Maddison Woodruff added seven points, as did Tiffany Wollum. Molly Clasing rounded d out the scoring with five points.
The Lady E’Hawks will be in action tonight (Thursday) as the travel to Estherville Lincoln Central to make up a game postponed from Jan. 18, and then return home on Friday night to host Sheldon.
