Knight Girls Rally For Win
GRAETTINGER — A determined rally in the second half and a 34 point performance by Theresa Peterson helped Graettinger/Terril come from behind for a 65-60 win over Ventura Friday night. The Knights battled back from a 12-point halftime deficit to improve to 4-8 on the season with the victory.
“I’m real proud of the effort of all the girls as each one had a key play in the victory,” said G/T co-coach Roger Conway. “I’m please with our overall composure the last three minutes and the score was tied at 55.”
The Knights played the Lady Vikings close in the first quarter and trailed 13-10, but Ventura pulled away in the second quarter to post a 34-22 advantage at the intermission.
However, the Knights weren’t about to be denied. Coming out of the lockerroom to start the third quarter, Graettinger/Terril began making shots, scoring on every trip down the floor. The 12 point deficit disappeared in the third quarter as GT led by a point, 41-40, to start the final frame.
The Knights battled through fouls in the final quarter, and would put the game away off free throws in the final 1:30 of the contest, as Peterson would go to the line three straight times and made four of six shots to secure the 65-60 win.
Peterson would tally 34 points on the night, including 11 of 15 free throws to pace the Knights. Malorie Girres added eight points, while Dakota Hovinga chipped in six points to the effort. Liz Sparks tallied five points, while Leah Flaharty and Amanda Olson both chipped in four points. Tasha Neilson and Lindsay Flaharty both came up with two points to round out the effort.
Liz Sparks had six assists and four steals in the win, while Theresa Peterson pulled down 12 rebounds for the double-double.
The Knights will travel to Everly tonight (Tuesday) to meet Clay Central-Everly.
