E’Hawk JV Earns Wins
Emmetsburg’s Junior Varsity boys collected a pair of victories in conference play last week. On Tuesday, the young E’Hawks took a 45-42 win at Spirit Lake.
Emmetsburg led 4-2 after one quarter and 19-14 at the half, before taking a 32-27 lead after three quarters and then survived a furious rally by the Indians for the 45-42 win.
Langston Jones would lead the young E’Hawks with 19 points while Nick Wuebker would get the double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, as well as three blocked shots. Cory Schultes tallied eight points, while Tommy Kuecker had six points and nine rebounds. Nate Brown tallied five points, while Kyle Elbert and Joel Priest both scored two points.
“Despite having 21 turnovers for the game, we out-rebounded our opponent 37 to 16,” noted JV Coach Phil Geelan. “We also had a great night at the free throw line going 17 for 20.”
On Friday night, the young E’Hawks journeyed to Cherokee for a meeting with the Braves, and brought home a satisfying 50-37 victory.
Emmetsburg took an 18-10 lead after one quarter and led 27-16 at the half. Emmetsburg doubled up their score in the third for a 36-26 lead and went on to tally the 50-37 final margin of victory.
Nick Wuebker tallied another double-double with 22 points and 15 rebounds to lead the E’Hawks. Langston Jones added nine points and six blocks, while Cory Schultes chipped in eight points. Nate Brown would score four points, while Kyle Elbert, Joel Priest and Tommy Kuecker all scored two points and Ben Pelzer added a free throw.
“This was a great rebounding night as we out-rebounded Cherokee 34 to 20. We also made 17 out of 19 free throws in the contest,” Geelan noted .
The E’Hawk JV improves to 6-4 with the victories.
