E’Hawk Junior Varsity Defeats Spencer

Emmetsburg’s boys’ Junior Varsity basketball team came up with an exciting 47-37 win over the Spencer Tigers on Friday, Jan. 4. The win improves Emmetsburg’s mark on the season to 4-4.

Emmetsburg jumped out to an early 10-4 lead over the Tigers after one quarter of play, and at halftime, Coach Phil Geelan’s team held a 19-10 lead. In the third quarter, Spencer got hot and closed the gap to a two-point, 24-22 margin. The two squads battled bucket for bucket in the final period before Emmetsburg pulled away for the 47-37 win.

Emmetsburg was led by the 20 points of Langston Jones and 13 points from Nick Wuebker. Kyle Elbert added seven points, with Nate Brown and Tommy Kuecker both scoring three points and Ben Pelzer adding a free throw.

Nick Wuebker pulled down 10 rebounds for the double-double.

Emmetsburg hit 23 of 24 free throws, made two of eight three-pointers and canned nine of 24 two point shots.

“This was a good win over Spencer,” Coach Geelan noted. “We kept our composure very well and hit our free throws, with Langston hitting 16 of 17 at the line.”
